A rare and beautiful ivory or bone plaque depicting the Mother Goddess. Shunga period, 2nd-1st century B.C. Chandraketugarh area in West Bengal, India. The plaques left side had been broken, with two pieces re-attached.4.5cm x 9cm, 3 5/8"x 1 3/4". It looks like ancient ivory, but Christie's sold a similar piece as bone. If anyone can give me any information regarding this I would be most appreciative.
