Chinese painted fan with ivory and silk
A very fine Chinese export fan with filigree brass "sticks" with fired enamel floral motif. The two outside supports are inset with silver floral filigree work. One side is painted with flowers, birds and insects in a vine enclosed central cartouche with smaller cartouches on either side that show fantastic animals. An elaborate border with bats in the corners and gold foil edges. The other side show an official court scene with the figures dressed in applied silk robes and painted ivory faces. Again with an elaborate painted border. There is one ivory face missing from the lower figure a third the way from the left side, all else in excellent condition for it's age. 9 1/2"(24.2cm) high, 18 1/4" opened. Macau, China, circa 1820.
