| This wonderful soapstone figure carving of a seated luohan picking his ear is of the highest quality and most probably from the late seventeenth century, though may be from the very early eighteenth century. The satisfied look on the luohans face is exceptional, the detail is exquisite, look at the incised floral work on the robes border, also the back of the robe is incised with a large medallion of a swirling dragon in clouds. Incised phoenixes on either side of lower back robe. Also notice the two inlaid pearls. Matched with a contemporary (L.17th c.)base of the same high quality. A small section of the the robe, overlapping the base on the right, had been broken and reattached, otherwise it is in great condition. 4 3/8th"(11cm) I am sorry the photos do not show the detail work very well.Contact me for more info and or pictures. | ||
